Structural Cabling Technician at ComputerTech

Duty Station: Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania

Job Responsibilities

1. Installation of Cabling Systems

  • Planning & Layout: Collaborate with architects, engineers, and IT staff to design effective cabling systems.
  • Site Surveys & Documentation: Conduct site surveys, utilize blueprints and floor plans, document test results, and perform quality audits.
  • Installation & Removal: Install structured cabling components, including cabinets, cable trays, PVC trunking/conduits, network racks, and related materials.
  • Running & Terminating Cables: Install and terminate Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6a, fiber optics, and coaxial cables for secure and efficient connections.

2. Testing and Troubleshooting

  • Cable Testing: Use specialized equipment to ensure integrity and performance of cables.
  • Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve connectivity and network issues.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of installations, test results, and resolved issues.

3. Maintenance and Upgrades

  • Routine Checks: Conduct regular inspections and maintenance for reliability.
  • System Upgrades: Enhance cabling systems for new technologies or data load increases.
  • Repairs: Replace damaged components to restore functionality.

4. Compliance and Standards

  • Adherence to Standards: Ensure installations meet industry standards (TIA/EIA, ISO/IEC).
  • Safety Regulations: Follow safety protocols to prevent hazards.

5. Client Interaction

  • Consultation: Understand client needs and provide tailored cabling solutions.
  • Training: Educate clients on proper maintenance and usage of their cabling systems.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Education: Diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field OR significant experience in structured cabling installation and maintenance.
  • Certifications: BICSI Installer (INST1, INST2), Certified Network Cable Installer (CNCI), Fiber Optic Technician (CFOT).
  • Experience: Minimum 3 years in cabling installation, maintenance, and system upgrades.
  • Skills: Proficiency in using cable installation tools, cable testing, and strong communication skills for client and team interaction.
