TAI (Storytelling for Social Change) is seeking a qualified Accountant Intern to join its Finance Department in Dar es Salaam.

The Accountant Intern will support the Finance Department in maintaining accurate financial records, processing payments, monitoring budgets and ensuring financial transactions comply with TAI’s Financial Regulations and approved procedures.

This six-month opportunity provides practical exposure to accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, bank reconciliation, payment processing, payroll support and audit processes.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain accurate and up-to-date books of accounts and financial records.
• Process payments and prepare payment vouchers in accordance with approved procedures.
• Check supporting documents, budget codes and availability of funds.
• Prepare monthly bank reconciliations and follow up on outstanding items.
• Maintain the petty cash book and supporting documentation.
• Process and monitor staff imprests.
• Prepare monthly reports on outstanding imprests.
• Support preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports.
• Support preparation of project and organizational budgets.
• Record and properly code financial transactions.
• Support payroll preparation in coordination with the HR Department.
• Verify invoices and maintain proper financial documentation.
• Ensure safe custody and filing of financial records.
• Support internal and external audits.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
• Professional accounting qualification or relevant progress toward one will be an added advantage.
• At least 2 years of relevant accounting experience, preferably within an NGO or donor-funded organization.
• Good knowledge of bookkeeping and financial reporting.
• Knowledge of budgeting and bank reconciliation.
• Experience using accounting software.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Strong attention to detail.
• High level of integrity and confidentiality.
• Good organizational and time-management skills.
• Ability to work independently.
