Job Description

Focus Group is seeking a suitably qualified and experienced Expatriate Man-Guarding Team Leader to manage and supervise manned guarding operations in Tanzania. This is a rotation-based opportunity for an experienced security leader with verifiable military or police service and strong expertise in guard-force supervision, physical security, incident response, access control and operational reporting. 

The successful candidate will maintain professional guarding standards, supervise deployed security personnel and ensure that site security procedures are implemented effectively. The role requires a disciplined, practical leader capable of managing personnel fairly, maintaining accountability and delivering high standards in demanding operational environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage, supervise and motivate deployed security guards and supervisors.
  • Plan guard deployments, shifts, rotations and relief arrangements.
  • Conduct daily parades, personnel inspections and operational briefings.
  • Ensure compliance with post orders, site instructions and company procedures.
  • Monitor guard discipline, attendance, appearance and performance.
  • Conduct site inspections and assess operational security requirements.
  • Coordinate incident response and ensure accurate, timely reporting.
  • Investigate security incidents, security breaches and guard misconduct.
  • Maintain occurrence books, deployment registers, inspection records and incident reports.
  • Identify personnel training requirements and conduct practical, site-specific training.
  • Liaise professionally with clients, local management and relevant authorities.
  • Promote discipline, accountability, safety and customer service across guarding operations.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must have:

  • At least five years of verifiable service in a recognised military or police organisation.
  • Proven experience managing manned guarding personnel and security operations.
  • Demonstrated leadership, supervisory and disciplinary capabilities.
  • Sound knowledge of physical security, access control, patrol management, incident response and security reporting.
  • Ability to develop and enforce post orders, deployment plans and standard operating procedures.
  • Strong written and spoken English.
  • Computer literacy, including Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and email.
  • A valid passport.
  • Ability to meet Tanzanian immigration and work-permit requirements.
  • A valid driving licence.
  • Medical fitness and willingness to work in a demanding operational environment.
  • A clear criminal record.
  • Contactable professional references. 

Preferred Qualifications and Attributes

The following will be advantageous:

  • Previous expatriate or African operational experience.
  • Experience in mining, industrial, construction, logistics or other high-risk environments.
  • Formal security management or supervisory qualifications.
  • First-aid, fire-safety or emergency-response training.
  • Experience working with multicultural teams and local guard forces.

Rotation and Remuneration

The position operates on the following rotation:

  • Eight weeks working in Tanzania.
  • Four weeks of home leave in South Africa.
  • The successful candidate will receive a full salary during the four-week leave period.
  • A competitive expatriate remuneration package will be offered based on the applicant’s qualifications, experience and suitability for the position.
