MEND East Africa Limited is recruiting a Loan Officer on behalf of a client operating in Tanzania’s microfinance sector. The position is responsible for supporting business growth through customer acquisition, loan-portfolio development, credit appraisal, relationship management, and collections.

The successful candidate will manage lending activities while maintaining portfolio quality and complying with internal policies and Bank of Tanzania requirements. The role requires experience in loan origination, credit assessment, customer management, portfolio monitoring, and debt recovery.

Job Purpose

Drive business growth through customer acquisition, loan-portfolio development, and customer relationship management while maintaining strong portfolio quality. The role also oversees credit assessment, portfolio monitoring, loan collections, documentation, and regulatory compliance. 

Key Responsibilities

• Execute loan-portfolio growth strategies.
• Acquire and onboard individual, small-business, and group-lending customers.
• Conduct preliminary customer screening and interviews.
• Complete credit appraisals and financial analysis.
• Monitor customers’ business performance.
• Conduct regular customer and field visits.
• Maintain low loan-default rates.
• Conduct timely repayment follow-ups.
• Implement collection and loan-recovery strategies.
• Manage Portfolio at Risk within assigned limits.
• Conduct required customer-identification and compliance checks.
• Ensure compliance with Bank of Tanzania regulations.
• Maintain complete and accurate loan-file documentation.
• Protect customer data and maintain confidentiality.
• Identify operational risks, fraud indicators, and potential non-performing loans.
• Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly portfolio reports.
• Report on disbursements, portfolio performance, and collections. 

Qualifications and Experience

• Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Banking, Finance, Microfinance, Marketing, or a related field.
• Minimum of two to three years’ experience in loan origination, sales, credit appraisal, or portfolio management within a bank or microfinance institution.
• Professional certification in Credit Management, Banking, or Risk Management is an added advantage.
