Laterite is seeking a Research Analyst to join its Tanzania office in Dar es Salaam.

The position combines research design, quantitative and qualitative data analysis, project management support, fieldwork coordination, data quality management, and client-facing research delivery.

Laterite is a data, research and analytics firm working on complex development challenges in partnership with universities, global think tanks, international NGOs, multilateral donors and government ministries. Its clients include the World Bank, TechnoServe and the Mastercard Foundation.

The successful candidate will work from the Dar es Salaam office while contributing to projects in both Tanzania and Uganda. Laterite's Tanzania portfolio includes research and data-collection projects across areas such as education, public health and agriculture, while its Uganda portfolio also includes energy-sector work.

The role provides opportunities to develop expertise in research design, sampling, impact evaluation, project management, client communication, advanced data analysis, statistical techniques, coding, report writing and presentation of research findings.

Key Responsibilities

• Support ethical approval processes, research design, and development of research instruments.
• Conduct quantitative and qualitative data analysis.
• Draft sections of research reports and client presentations.
• Support communication with clients and internal project teams regarding project progress.
• Code survey instruments using SurveyCTO and other ODK-based platforms.
• Collaborate with field teams to develop training materials and support enumerator training.
• Participate in field visits to understand and improve data-collection processes.
• Monitor, clean, and validate incoming survey data.
• Work closely with field teams to identify and resolve data-quality issues.
• Support statistical analysis and interpretation of findings.
• Contribute to consultancy-quality reports and data-driven insights.
• Where interested, contribute to business development and preparation of technical and financial proposals.

Qualifications & Experience

• Completed Master's degree in Economics, Public Health, Development or a related field.
• At least one year of professional experience in similar roles or tasks.
• Experience gained through internships, dissertation work or participation in an academic research group may be considered where the candidate can demonstrate how it meets the requirements of the role.
• Strong quantitative data-analysis skills.
• Proficiency in Stata.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and Kiswahili.

• Gross monthly salary: TZS 7,311,684–9,704,383, depending on experience and interview outcome.
