Truck Driver Recruitment in Tanzania: From Last-Minute Calls to a Stronger Driver Pipeline

Published October 24, 2026 18 Views

A truck may be serviced, loaded and assigned to a customer, yet still be unable to leave because the right driver is unavailable. For a transport company, an unexpected absence can turn into a delivery problem. For a growing logistics business, several new trucks can create several different hiring needs. For a recruitment agency, a long list of phone numbers is of limited value when a client needs a driver with particular vehicle experience and the correct documents.

The practical question is not simply, “Can we find a driver?” It is, “Can we identify someone whose experience, licence, route background and availability fit this assignment—and can we see the evidence clearly?”

The pressure extends beyond recruitment

Congestion, unpredictable journey times and demanding working conditions affect the people operating Tanzania’s freight routes. In August 2026, transport stakeholders proposed parking hubs, changes to cargo facilities and digital coordination to address truck congestion in Dar es Salaam. These were proposals addressing wider infrastructure and operational pressures, not a recruitment solution. The Citizen, 25 August 2026.

Reporting from Tunduma in December 2025 described lengthy border queues, pressure on drivers’ allowances and reduced opportunities to rest. Separately, the International Transport Workers’ Federation’s June 2026 regional account highlighted insecure employment, fatigue and inadequate stopping facilities across African transport corridors. Its findings describe regional concerns, rather than a Tanzania-wide statistical survey. Tunduma reporting; ITF regional account.

Better recruitment cannot remove a border queue or repair a road. It can help an employer prepare a clearer role brief, confirm a candidate’s actual availability and avoid assigning a driver to work their experience does not support. Retaining good drivers also requires clear terms, realistic scheduling, safe vehicles and respectful treatment.

Why a general CV is not enough for a truck assignment

A driver may have strong experience with school buses, light vehicles or forklifts. That experience deserves an accurate record, but it does not automatically establish suitability for an articulated truck or a cross-border assignment. Likewise, experience on local construction projects does not establish Transit experience.

HumanValue’s specialist intake brings the relevant questions together. The driver application accepts information through a dedicated website form, while the recruitment team can organize documents submitted through WhatsApp into a structured profile.

The driver profile brings together:

  • Driving credentials: Class E licence information, exact expiry date and relevant training certificates.
  • Vehicle experience: Scania, SHACMAN, FAW, HOWO or other brands; vehicle/trailer types; and automatic or manual driving experience.
  • Route background: Local or Transit preference, countries previously driven in and preferred destinations, where supplied.
  • Practical availability: current employment, current city, journey and expected return information, where supplied.
  • Recruitment evidence: original CV and received licence, certificate, passport or police documents, with missing information identified.

HumanValue-branded recruitment summaries can bring these details and the received supporting documents into an organized candidate pack. A recruiter can see whether information is new, needs further information or has been reviewed. Missing or expired documents remain visible rather than disappearing inside a generic match percentage.

These are screening aids. A police letter verifying a driving licence must not be presented as a criminal-record clearance, and a received certificate must not be labelled independently authenticated without the relevant checks.

Two ways to engage HumanValue

For employers and recruitment agencies sourcing directly, HumanValue Talent Bank on JobsTanzania provides the candidate-search service described on its subscription page. Review the current plan, unlock allowances and available candidate information before subscribing.

For a specialist truck-driver shortlist or supporting-document pack, contact HumanValue’s recruitment team. The dedicated driver database currently supports the internal recruitment workflow; access to its detailed records and documents is managed by the team. A Talent Bank subscription should not be understood as unrestricted access to every uploaded identity or police document.

Bring a specific brief: how many drivers you need, vehicle and trailer type, Local or Transit routes, required licence and experience, location, start date and employment terms. HumanValue can scope an urgent replacement enquiry, planned recruitment or fleet-expansion requirement against that brief. Candidate availability and delivery timing need confirmation for each assignment.

Responsible access is part of responsible recruitment

Tanzania’s Personal Data Protection Act sets requirements for purpose, disclosure, security and retention. Recruitment access must be limited to an appropriate hiring purpose; a subscription is not permission to circulate candidates’ documents publicly. The driver form separates recruitment permission from optional employer-client sharing, and document release must respect the recorded permission and applicable law.
