Description

BRAC Maendeleo Tanzania is recruiting a Programme Officer Intern to support implementation of the AIM Programme at its Msamvu Branch in Morogoro.

The AIM Programme, implemented through a partnership between the Mastercard Foundation and BRAC International, aims to create opportunities for adolescent girls and young women through economic empowerment, livelihood development and community-based interventions.

The internship offers practical experience in programme implementation, Village Savings and Loans Associations (VSLAs), livelihood support, participant follow-up, financial inclusion, monitoring and community engagement.

Key Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Branch Manager, the intern will:

  • Form and follow up VSLAs to encourage a savings culture among participants.

  • Support conditional cash transfers of assets and recovery of those assets.

  • Ensure at least 80% of AIM livelihood participants transition to formal microfinance institutions.

  • Conduct initial and immediate home visits after participants receive livelihood assets.

  • Undertake home visits and group visits to monitor asset safety, growth, household income and confidence-building.

  • Deliver stakeholder education follow-up activities, including attendance verification, peer-mentor study circles and home visits.

  • Prepare monthly work plans and visit routes using a compact catchment-area approach.

  • Complete at least 90% of planned home visits monthly and alert the Branch Manager when portfolios exceed capacity or completion falls below target.

Safeguarding Responsibilities

  • Protect team members and programme participants from harm, abuse, neglect, harassment and exploitation.

  • Promote a safe working environment and safeguarding standards.

  • Follow established safeguarding reporting procedures and encourage others to report concerns.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Graduate or Diploma qualification in Social Studies, Community Development, Gender and Development, Human Resources, Business Administration or a related field.

  • At least one year of experience in international development, particularly with marginalised communities, community development programmes, financial inclusion, microfinance, livelihood development, food security or adolescent girls' and women's empowerment programmes.

  • Experience as an AIM club mentor, community mobilisation facilitator or group mobilisation officer is an added advantage.

  • Experience managing savings groups, cash or asset transfers, or cost-recovery and instalment collection is an added advantage.
