Mine Manager, Open Pit Mining | Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC)

An exciting senior mining leadership opportunity in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is available for an experienced Mine Manager to lead an open pit mining operation.

The successful candidate will oversee mine planning, safe production, contractor performance and operational cost control across project sites.

This position requires a mining professional capable of translating geological and survey information into practical mining plans, while ensuring drilling, blasting, loading and haulage contractors deliver against production targets, safety requirements and cost expectations.

The role is site-based with an 8/2 rotation, making it particularly relevant to experienced mining professionals seeking international opportunities in Africa.

Key Responsibilities

1. Mine Planning & Production Management

• Translate geological and survey information into practical and executable open pit mining plans.

• Lead mine planning and safe production activities across project sites.

• Oversee stripping operations, ore movement and production performance.

• Monitor ore dilution, ore losses and production efficiency.

• Maintain effective production controls and operational discipline.

2. Mining Contractor Management

• Direct drilling, blasting, loading, mining and haulage contractors.

• Establish production targets and performance expectations.

• Monitor contractor output against agreed deliverables.

• Hold contractors accountable for production performance, costs and operating standards.

• Identify and address operational performance gaps.

3. Operational Safety & Site Management

• Maintain high standards of Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) compliance.

• Ensure mining operations comply with statutory and site-specific requirements.

• Oversee dewatering activities, pit access, haul roads and safe working areas.

• Promote safe and disciplined mining operations across project sites.

4. Production Reporting & Cost Control

• Prepare and maintain accurate daily, weekly and monthly production reports.

• Monitor operational costs and production efficiency.

• Track contractor performance and operating expenditure.

• Support management decision-making through accurate operational information.

Qualifications & Experience

Educational Qualifications

• Qualification from a recognised educational mining institution.

Professional Experience

• Minimum 10 years of open pit mining experience.

• At least 5 years in a senior production or mine management position.

• Demonstrated experience managing open pit mining operations and contractors.

• Strong experience in mine planning, production control and operational cost management.

Technical Competencies

• Strong understanding of open pit mining methods and production processes.

• Competence using recognised mine planning software.

• Ability to interpret geological and survey information for mine planning.

• Strong contractor management and performance-monitoring capabilities.

• Sound understanding of mine safety, production efficiency and operational controls.
