Presales Engineer

Job Summary

The Presales Engineer is the technical partner to the sales team. You will understand customer needs, design fitting IT solutions, deliver demos and proofs of concept, and prepare technical proposals and tender responses that help win business.

Key Responsibilities

•         Work with the sales team to identify customer requirements, business challenges and technical environments.

•         Design and propose IT solutions (infrastructure, networking, security, software, cloud) that meet customer needs.

•         Deliver product presentations, technical demonstrations and proofs of concept (PoC).

•         Prepare technical proposals, solution designs, bills of materials (BoM) and cost estimates.

•         Respond to tenders, RFPs, RFIs and RFQs, ensuring full technical compliance.

•         Answer technical questions from customers during the sales cycle.

•         Coordinate with vendors, OEMs and distributors on pricing, licensing and technical specifications.

•         Ensure a smooth handover of won projects to the implementation and support teams.

•         Keep up to date with technology trends, competitor offerings and product roadmaps.

•         Maintain presales documentation, templates and a library of reusable solution content.

•         Support marketing activities such as events, workshops and webinars.

Qualifications and Experience

•         Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, Computer Engineering or another IT-related field.

•         At least 1 year of experience in presales, solutions engineering, systems engineering or a similar technical role.

•         Experience preparing technical proposals and tender documents.

•         Professional certifications are an added advantage, for example CCNA/CCNP, Microsoft Azure, AWS, Fortinet, VMware, CompTIA or ITIL.

•         Experience working with IT vendors, OEMs or system integrators is an advantage.

Skills and Competencies

Technical skills

•         Good knowledge of networking, servers, storage, virtualization, cybersecurity and cloud solutions.

•         Ability to read customer requirements and turn them into a clear solution design.

•         Familiarity with enterprise software and business applications.

•         Strong skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and diagramming tools such as Visio or draw.io.

Soft skills

•         Excellent presentation and communication skills in English and Kiswahili.

•         Ability to explain technical ideas to non-technical audiences.

•         Strong customer focus and relationship-building skills.

•         Good problem-solving and analytical thinking.

•         Ability to manage several bids and deadlines at the same time.

•         Team player who works well with sales, technical and management staff.
