General Manager: Agricultural Operations & Export Value-Chain

A leading agro-industrial company in Tanzania is seeking an experienced General Manager – Agricultural Operations & Export Value-Chain to lead large-scale farming operations, downstream value-addition activities, and international trade initiatives. Reporting directly to the Board of Directors, the role carries full profit and loss accountability and oversight of a diverse agricultural portfolio including avocado, cashew nuts, legumes, peanuts, honey, and wine production. 

This executive leadership opportunity is ideal for a commercially driven agricultural professional with proven expertise in large-scale agribusiness operations, processing infrastructure development, export sales, and business transformation. 1. General Manager – Agricultural Operations & Export Value-Chain

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise the construction, installation, and commissioning of value-add agro-processing plants.
• Oversee avocado cultivation and premium wine production operations.
• Manage cashew nuts, legumes and peanuts production portfolios.
• Oversee modern honey production systems.
• Establish standard operating procedures across planting, harvesting, cold-chain and manufacturing operations.
• Architect and lead global export strategies.
• Secure high-value off-take agreements across North America, Europe, Asia and the Middle East.
• Ensure compliance with phytosanitary, traceability and international retail standards.
• Manage cross-border logistics, cold-chain integrity and export clearing procedures.
• Build and recruit a high-performing agricultural operations team.
• Work closely with Human Resources on workforce planning and localization initiatives.
• Manage capital expenditure and operational expenditure budgets.
• Implement climate, crop disease, pest and biosecurity risk mitigation frameworks.
• Maintain full P&L accountability for the agricultural business unit.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor's Degree in Agronomy, Agricultural Science, Agribusiness, Food Science or a related field.
• MBA or postgraduate business qualification is highly preferred.
• 15+ years of progressive leadership experience in commercial farming, agro-processing or global agribusiness.
• African or East African agricultural experience preferred.
• Proven track record in value-add processing projects.
• Proven experience executing international export trade contracts.
• Experience with tree crops including avocados and cashews.
• Exposure to legumes, peanuts, honey production or wine production.
