Key responsibilities

• Follow safety requirements, use the Take 5 tool, comply with underground operating procedures and report hazards and incidents.
• Construct underground ventilation walls, including scaffold erection and dismantling, steel skeleton construction, timber work and housekeeping.
• Assemble and install primary ventilation fans and prepare skeleton walls for shotcreting in accordance with approved designs.
• Construct backfill barricade walls, including formwork, reinforcement, timber work and hot works under approved procedures.
• Support civil projects through formwork, reinforcement bars, concrete and cement pads and other manual work assigned by the supervisor.
• Complete training in underground air and water service lines, offsider and nipper duties, underground machinery and light vehicles where applicable.

Qualifications and experience

• Completed secondary school education and a valid Tanzanian driving licence.
• Two to three years of operational experience in an underground mining environment.
• Experience operating underground utility vehicles and erecting underground civil projects.
• Ability to apply Job Safety Analysis, read work plans and mining instructions, and understand construction and civil works techniques.
• Knowledge of timber formwork, steel fixing and hot-work procedures.
• Good reporting, cross-shift communication, work planning and execution, and ability to coach new employees.
