About the Opportunity
The HME Environmental Coordinator will support the Heavy Mining Equipment (HME) team by ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, ISO standards, and internal sustainability requirements. The successful candidate will play a key role in environmental inspections, spill prevention, waste management, contractor supervision, and continuous improvement initiatives across Geita Gold Mine operations.

Key Responsibilities
Environmental Compliance & Safety Management
- Ensure compliance with environmental legislation, ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018 standards.
- Conduct environmental inspections and audits across mining operations.
- Investigate environmental incidents and support corrective actions.
- Lead initiatives that promote safe and environmentally responsible work practices.
Waste Management & Pollution Prevention
- Coordinate hydrocarbon spill prevention programs and emergency response activities.
- Manage waste segregation and disposal processes in line with environmental procedures.
- Support environmental rehabilitation and contamination prevention efforts.
Leadership & Contractor Coordination
- Supervise contractors and casual workforce activities.
- Conduct environmental awareness sessions and toolbox meetings.
- Promote best practices in waste handling, workplace cleanliness, and environmental stewardship.
Qualifications and Experience
Education
Applicants should possess one of the following:
- Trade certification in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- Diploma or FTC Qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Environmental Management, or a related discipline.
- Degree qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Environmental Management, or equivalent fields will be an added advantage.
- Valid Tanzanian Driving Licence.
Experience
- Minimum of five (5) years' experience in environmental management, mining, engineering, or related sectors.
- At least three (3) years in a supervisory or team leadership role.
- Experience managing contractor activities and environmental projects.
Required Skills
Successful candidates should demonstrate:
- Strong environmental compliance and sustainability knowledge.
- Experience in hydrocarbon spill prevention and waste management.
- Ability to supervise teams and coordinate cross-functional activities.
- Good computer literacy, including Microsoft Office and SAP.
- Strong communication and reporting skills.
- Ability to operate effectively in a mining environment while maintaining safety standards.
