KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The IT Infrastructure Technician will:

• Install, maintain, repair and support IT and communications infrastructure.
• Install and maintain telephone/PABX systems.
• Support radio communication systems.
• Install and maintain data and network cabling.
• Support audio-visual systems.
• Perform structured cabling installation and termination.
• Test data and network cabling.
• Troubleshoot network and communications infrastructure.
• Maintain communications systems in U.S. Government facilities.
• Support equipment installed in official U.S. Government residences and vehicles.
• Set up communications systems for VIP visits and off-site events.
• Operate telephone, radio and AV systems when required.
• Maintain inventories of IT and communications equipment.
• Maintain records covering tools, cabling, equipment and systems.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must have completed at least two years of post-secondary study at a vocational college or university in:

• Information Technology Infrastructure
• Telecommunications
• Network Systems

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Applicants must have at least two years of hands-on professional experience involving installation, repair, maintenance and troubleshooting of communications infrastructure.

Relevant experience should include areas such as:

• Data communications systems.
• Voice communications.
• Radio communications.
• Audio-visual systems.
• Telephone/PABX systems.
• Network cabling.
• Cable installation and termination.
• Cable testing and troubleshooting.

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS

Applicants require Level 3 – Good Working Knowledge in:

English: Reading, speaking and writing.
Kiswahili: Reading, speaking and writing.

Language proficiency may be tested during the recruitment process.

TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE

Candidates should demonstrate knowledge of:

• IT infrastructure principles and practices.
• Installation and operation of IT infrastructure.
